Work & stay

One permit. One defined role.

Most non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals need a stay and work permit or work registration certificate. The permit is tied to the approved job and employer. Applications may involve the employer, Croatian Employment Service and the competent police administration.

  • Valid travel document and photograph
  • Employment contract or relevant agreement
  • Qualifications where the role requires them
  • Health insurance, means of support and first-permit criminal record evidence
02

Residence

Prepare before you travel.

Temporary stay applications are generally submitted through a Croatian diplomatic mission or consular office, with some lawful exceptions for applications in Croatia. Visa-required nationals may also need a long-stay D visa after permit approval.

  • Confirm whether you need a visa
  • Use the route that matches your nationality and status
  • Register your Croatian address after arrival
  • Complete biometrics for the residence card
03

Family

A pathway for close family.

Family reunification may be available to close family members of Croatian nationals and qualifying residents. Conditions depend on the sponsor’s status; seasonal worker permits do not provide the same family route.

  • Confirm the sponsor’s residence category
  • Prepare marriage or birth evidence
  • Legalise and translate foreign documents where required
  • Check waiting conditions before applying
04

Citizenship

Eligibility comes before paperwork.

Croatian citizenship may be acquired by naturalisation under several legal grounds. Requirements and supporting evidence differ by route, and applications are generally made in person.

  • Identify the correct legal ground
  • Collect civil-status and identity records
  • Prepare legalisation and certified translations
  • Verify current requirements with the competent authority
